Brandon and Julie met while watching a Wisconsin Badger football game at a bar in Minneapolis. They sat next to each other and ended up talking about how they both wanted to see the Pompeii exhibit at the local science museum. In the Midwest, college football starts at around 11 am so the game was over by early afternoon. After the game ended, they took a spontaneous trip to the museum and spent the next 6 hours exploring…they spent 9 hours together on that first “date”. That was almost 5 1/2 years ago!.
The proposal happened a day before Julie started a new job, a week before Brandon’s 30th birthday, and 8 days before he left for the next 8 months (he’s a coach with the Dodgers’ minor league system so he’s gone a large chunk of the year). Julie knew it was coming, but wasn’t sure when and she was getting antsy because she knew Brandon was leaving for the season soon. Well, the ring had gotten lost in the mail (Brandon showed Julie the tracking slip to prove it!) so she basically thought this isn’t going to happen before he leaves and decided to accept that it would happen when the time was right.
Long story short, they decided to go on a hike in the Palisades (the Los Leones Canyon trail) the day before Julie started her new job. After enjoying a peaceful hike (it was a cloudy weekday afternoon so they only saw a couple of other people on the trail), they decided to stop and enjoy the view from the bluff. Brandon ended up proposing then – he said that he knew he didn’t have the ring yet, but that he loved Julie and asked if she would be his forever. Obviously, Julie couldn’t say no! Brandon ended up making her a beautiful ring of wild flowers and the real thing appeared in the mail a couple of days later.
We had so much fun during their engagement shoot. We did a lot of hiking, so we had time to talk and get to know each other. Their wedding is this weekend and we can’t wait!!
