Lake Tahoe Wedding | Squaw Valley Creek | Katya + Ryan | Part 1

Katya and Ryan’s Lake Tahoe Wedding at Squaw Valley Creek was breathtaking. Traveling for weddings is always an adventure and we love to see new landscapes, but something about Squaw Creek resonated with us at a deeper level from the moment we got there. As we walked the grounds and heard more of Katya and Ryan’s story Psalm 104 came to mind: 

“They went up over the mountains;

They went down into the valleys, to the place which you founded for them…

He sends the springs into the valleys;

They flow among the hills. 

They give drink to every animal of the field;

The wild donkeys quench their thirst. 

By them the birds of the heavens have their home;

They sing among the branches.

He waters the hills from His upper chambers;

The earth is satisfied with the fruit of Your works.”

The valleys that life throws our way are soothed by the mountains that come alongside those deep seasons. Being in the midst of Squaw Valley and hearing how Katya and Ryan built their relationship reminded us of how God designs us to be in relationship with him and one another. Katya and Ryan have a strong love for the place where we captured their first look as she grew up going to Squaw Valley and it has helped who they are as a couple. We loved hearing how Ryan fell in love with this beautiful land as Katya brought him into her experience of being a nature-lover! Nature speaks to us in ways that are powerful and this wedding created a space of peace and tranquility that can only come through communion with a creation that was intended to house God’s most valuable creatures. Seeing the green meadows lying against the snow-topped mountain peaks lets us know that one season is here and another is coming. In the midst of the craziness that tends to overwhelm our lives, stepping into a land of greenery and trees helps to slow the world down and make us take a breath of fresh air. Wedding planning can become so much about getting the perfect details and photos and that is definitely an important aspect, but knowing that a couple is meant to spend the rest of their lives getting to know their best friend helps put the importance of marriage back into perspective. Katya and Ryan fit so well together and we are so excited to see how life unfolds for these newlyweds!
