Abalone Cove Engagement | Hector + Kelly

Engagement

Hector and Kelly’s Abalone Cove Engagement was perfect and completely encompassed their relationship. We love that they wanted to have their photos represent their who they are and something they love to do together. The story of how they met is awesome and we want you to hear their adorable version before you see their photos:

KELLY: Technically we met in high school…..once.
HECTOR: What we really remember is Kelly’s freshman year at UCLA, my sophomore year. Our sweet friend Madison convinced Kelly to walk me around UCLA campus (after Madison had ditched me). Soon after this hangout and a few more, we changed our relationship status to “engaged” on Facebook (a weird thing that people thought was funny/strange/trending to do in college).
KELLY: While that fake facebook relationship did not last, Hector and I did develop a friendship.
HECTOR: (although Kelly had a crush on me and Madison was dropping big hints).
KELLY: Hanging out throughout college between UCLA and Santa Barbara trips, Hector shared with me during my spring quarter of senior year that I “intrigued” him.
HECTOR: We decided to date for a month.
KELLY: Hector says I then left him for Hong Kong….but he neglects to bring up that he was also leaving for Purdue University in Indiana
HECTOR: (neglects because she left me first ).
While we only talked twice through Facebook message during the first two years in Hong Kong (Kelly took months to respond), we would somehow manage to find ways to reconnect each time Kelly came home to LA.
Two years later, Kelly was back to LA on a work trip, and I bravely/courageously/honorably shared my desire to be unambiguous, expressing my interest in her and my hope to begin dating regardless of the distance. Thus began our relationship!
KELLY: Dating between Hong Kong and Indiana was one Skype per week and many long text messages from Hec stating sweet, cheesy replies like “So me being a hopeless romantic mostly means that I will try to make you know how I feel about you and will more often than not fail. But the thought will almost always be there”.
HECTOR: God brought Kelly back to California and a week after returning she took a trip to the great state of Indiana to visit me. It was the first time we got to see each other in 4 months. After some awkward re-introductions (and kisses), that week solidified our commitment towards trying to make our relationship work regardless of distance.
