Brett Simpson getting ready for his free surf.
Slater killing it as usual. No one can do a turn that powerful and round.
And he can keep up with the young guys doing airs like this. In case you were wondering, yes, he landed it π
Text book top turn.
Coolest thing about this contest is that I was right next to these guys hanging and talking with them. They are all so down to earth and humble. It was a really fun experience for me.
Most of you might not know where Trestles is, it’s a pretty remote location, but somehow the crew at Hurley were able to hook the guys up with warm showers! Must be nice.
Mick Fanning in his first heat.
I like this one cause the boat and buoy are in the back ground.
Solid bottom turn. Pretty good size wave too!
I could be shooting the guys in the water and then turn around with my other camera and take shots of them getting their interviews too.
Chris Davidson
Cool refection on the water from the buoy in the background.
Andy lost but he was a good sport!
Here’s my buddy John Eckimer. He has taught me so much about photography. We met back when I was in high school. He used to come to Burnout all the time in the 90’s when the surf was pumping and take pictures of me and my friends. Any guy that can shoot good pictures and eat a breakfast burrito at the same time is all right in my book π
Adriano De Souza
Check out the bird that was following him on the wave above.
Always mobbed by the reporters after a heat. That’s Peter King interviewing him.
And always time for the fans.
Look at all those big cameras.
Slater getting ready.
Game face.
Massive turn.
Stoked to be in the winners circle.
Dane Reynolds. Watching the competition.
Ok, I have to admit, I had Slater sign my white Quiksilver hat. I said it was for my son…but it was really for me π
Jordy Smith. He had an amazing heat. Check out some of his surfing below.
Brett Simpson
How did he make that? He did this right after on the same waves and landed perfectly. Can’t believe he didn’t get a 10.
Happy guy after that wave.
The man, Machado
He almost landed this perfectly.
Water crew.
This is from the walk down.
Well hope you all enjoyed that. I sure did. Thanks for checking it out π
