Part 2 of Katherine and Patrick’s Private Estate Wedding is bringing all of our rustic, mountain matrimony dreams to life! Their outdoor wedding was the perfect combination of backyard wedding, glamorous affair, and forest adventure and we loved every minute of it. The exact location of the wedding marks the spot where Patrick asked Katherine to be his wife. “The proposal happened on December 13, 2014. Patick, his parents, and I drove up to Arnold that morning to spend a holiday weekend in the mountains with my parents and brother. It had been snowing that week so we all decided to drive up to Big Trees and go for a hike. After hiking we returned to the car, and our moms were in a hurry to get back to the house to get dinner started. Patrick said he wanted to stay out and asked if it would be okay with them if we walked the few miles back home. He and I walked home through the forest, playing in the snow. We get back to my street and I try to take a shortcut, but he INSISTS we need to go the long way. I am cold and tired and start to complain, but I eventually gave in. We get to the front of my house and there is a wood bench sitting in the snow. Patrick tries to engage my curiosity, asks about the bench, and insists that we look at it and sit on it. He tells me to look at the bench and now I see the inscription “All my Atoms.” At this point he kneels on the ground and starts fidgeting in his pocket. He then explains how he bought me this bench and it is a replica of the bench in the Oxford Gardens in England as well as a quote from the book The Amber Spyglass. He continues to share about how it will be our bench and will go in our future garden and we will sit on it with our children…then he asks me to marry him. To be honest…I was still confused and stared at him for an uncomfortably long time before I realized what was happening. Then I jumped on him and we played in the snow before going inside and celebrating. Hooray!!”
Katherine and Patrick, thanks for being such an awesome team and we cannot wait to see the adventures life brings your way and the many photos you will take on that bench as your life as husband and wife unfold!
