McCormick Home Ranch | Erik + Jillian | Part 2

Weddings

Okay, so I had some thoughts last night about weddings… but I need to start with the subject of life first. Life is crazy, always changing, but if we are honest… most days are just ordinary. We go to school, work, and hopefully we throw in a hobby or two. We strive to live everyday to it’s fullest, but we still ache for more. And then there are those days that happen, some we plan for and some that just happen. They are the highs and lows of life, the mountain tops and the valleys, the joy and the pain. It’s in these moments that God shouts to us and we feel alive.

Weddings are one of those days that we plan for and they are a gift! We spend so much energy planning this one day and it goes by so quickly. But, if we slow down and take a deep breath, we get to experience something amazing. The something amazing will be different for everyone, but if we take that extra breath and ask God to open our eyes and ears, He will. Even in the chaos of a wedding, I always find joy and I love it!

Jillian and Erik, I know you have already experienced many highs and lows together. I hope that this day will stay fresh in your hearts and I hope that these images always remind you of the joy and the love you guys have together! And that you will always keep asking God to show you something amazing!

Jillian you are SO beautiful!Jillian and Erik made these awesome ice cream sandwiches for everyone!!

Here is one more thought and it’s not mine! It’s from C.S. Lewis’ amazing mind!

” Being in love is a good thing, but it is not the best thing. There are many things below it, but there are also things above it. You cannot make it the basis of a whole life. It is a noble feeling, but it is still a feeling. Now no feeling can be relied on to last in its full intensity, or even to last at all. Knowledge can last, principles can last, habits can last; but feelings come and go. And in fact, whatever people say, the state called “being in love” usually does not last. If the old fairytale ending “They lived happily ever after” is taken to mean “They felt for the next fifty years exactly as they felt the day before they were married,” then it says what probably never was nor ever could be true, and would be highly undesirable if it were. Who could bear to live in that excitement for even five years? What would become of your work, your appetite, your sleep, your friendships? But, of course, ceasing to be “in love” need not mean ceasing to love. Love in this second sense-love as distinct from “being in love” is not merely a feeling. It is a deep unity, maintained by the will and deliberately strengthened by habit; reinforced by (in Christian marriages) the grace which both parents ask, and receive, from God. They can have this love for each other even at those moments when they do not like each other; as you love yourself even when you do not like yourself. They can retain this love even when each would easily, if they allowed themselves, be “in love” with someone else. “Being in love” first moved them to promise fidelity: this quieter love enables them to keep the promise. It is on this love that the engine of marriage is run: being in love was the explosion that started it.” (Mere Christianity)

You are both amazing, but by putting you together, God has an even more radical story to tell! We love, love, love, you and we can’t wait to go camping!
